My extended play time is largely due to it being so engaging I actually dozed off while playing. So I think a list is in order this time....1. Badly or completely mistranslated names for hidden objects2. I actually broke the game very early on by using two items together in the wrong location and it then refused to let me have a mouse cursor3. Backgrounds do not update to reflect story based changes. See that area over there? the one with the giant multicoloured object? Zoom in over there and pick up the object. Now zoom out and hey presto it's reappeared!4. Collectibles also do not always ...collect? I mean they are counted but they don't always diappear so you are unsure if they are counted. Whilst there is a somewhat saving grace in that collectibles are counted across multiple playthroughs (so you can spot the ones you missed) since they all appear in every playthrough even that becomes a little difficult to keep track of.5. Some of the animations look like they really couldn't be bothered.6. Some of the interative areas, likewise, are missing any text/voice decriptions - oooh a question mark cursor? *click* *nothing*7. The puzzles, which are normally pitched somewhere between "easy" and "mildly irritating" are instead pitched at "I'm a three year old" level. I thought perhaps I'd missed an option in the difficulty settings... but sadly no.8. The story, which actually had a reasonable amount of promise as a murder mystery, is garbled to the point where it can be hard to work out exactly who is who and makes only a little sense. It also means the addition of a "look for clues" minigame where you click on random items in the hope that they will be clues and then rearrange them, jigsaw style, into an entirely nonsensical narrative.9. If you don't want to hunt for hidden objects you can switch to a mahjong game that requires zero skill and shuffles all the pieces remaining should you ever happen to get stuck. If you are achievement hunting this is pointless, since there are no achievements associated with it but if you're just looking for a clear this may save you from getting stuck in mistranslation hell.10. No free play/bonus chapter/extended content of any sort once you complete the game. Hitting play at that point will just start you over at the beginning. There is a "more" section on the menu but this is just a catch all for settings/help/achievements.11. As with most artifex mundi games if you run it for an extended period of time it gets slower and slower. However where I have previously only usually found the slowdown noticable if i was doing multiple play throughs in this case it was very obvious after only a relatively short playtime. Additionally quitting the game often didn't seem to actually close it, requiring a force kill via task manager before it could be restarted.(and of course if I could just have persuaded the protagonist to keep hold of the penknife and lighter that are in the very first area just imagine how much simpler everything could have been!)There are many, many better examples of this genre out there if this is your thing.. An OK HOG that first sucks you in but ends up to be disapointing.pros. good graphicshigh resolutionok sound tracks (reminds me of mortal kombat for some reason)ok storycons.cheesy voice actingbad (rushed) endingvery short (a bit more than 2 hours)overall i give this game a 5/10 because it is pretty short and has no bonus chapter to make up for the time.5/10 for the game +1 for the cards = 6/10i only recommend this game with a bundle or heavly discounted. I liked the winter setting and the overall presentation. The story i liked because it was somewhat realistic, not involving fantasy creatures or magic. Gameplay wise it was not bad, but the game is short and mostly too easy. It lacks complexity on everything that makes a good game in this genre, except the story, which i found somewhat difficult to follow.. This is an Ok HOG. You end up at a hotel to solve a murder. If we had a ranking system I'd say it gets a 3/5. Buy if it's on sale.. I was surprised this was published by Artifex Mundi. It's not a good Hidden Object Game. First of all, what motivated me to make this review was during a HOG scene, I was looking for a "Bowl", but after scouring the simple scene with no "Bowl" in sight, I used the Hint and it pointed to a "Bow (Tie)". O__O Seriously? The Hidden Object scenarios are very simple, as if it was meant for those who have very short attention spans. This isn't that bad, but offer little fun. Solving puzzles that show a result lag a bit at the end, as if there is a slight pause. Immersion is slightly taken away here. Also, the detective you're playing is a goof ball. How is an experienced detective so often so careless in what she does? "YES, PLEASE lock me in here because I left the lights on and the door wide opened!" "Please knock me out because I just love rushing into scenes without a care in the world!" O__OThe 'acting' of the various characters is nothing to write home to. The act of most of the characters act like robots wearing human skin. The voice of the antagonist sounds forced and deliberate. However, on the more positive aspects of the game, the art work is pretty vibrant and makes the ambiance believable. The idea of the puzzles are pretty interesting, though ultimately quite simple in design. I think the overall idea of the game is nice, but the flow feels broken and the main character is a very dumb person.. I love these types of games, but unfortunately this template is my least favorite. The voice acting is terrible, and the game is too easy even on the hardest setting. Graphics are not comparable to the better Artifex Mundi games, they do not look very clear.. This game was very very easy so I will not recommend it to those who seek a challenge! But if you like small games that keep you entertained for the moment, this is a cute HO game for you. My Brother Rabbit launches on September 21!: My Brother Rabbit, the heartwarming adventure game from Artifex Mundi, invites players on an emotional trip into the dreamlands of imagination on September 21. The creative process behind creating the locations in Irony Curtain: This time we’d like to acquaint you with the creative process that goes into creating the scenes in the game. Here, for example, we have one of the first locations in the game – the conference Evan attends in order to present a speech on Matryoshka. If you'd like to support the game, don't forget to add Irony Curtain to wishlist!1. First off, we begin with a very rough concept art - mapping out the placement of active elements of the scene (the interactive parts that will contain moving objects), and on this, we build the gameplay (with placeholder dialogues and text and placeholder screens instead of minigames). This is usually the fastest part of the process. If we don’t like it or something doesn’t play out quite as well, we re-do parts of it until everything fits the way we want it to.PS. Drawing each location out by hand means, that we have concept arts for each and every location in the game! Would you like to see them as bonus material?2. After the sketch is completed we create a mood board, which sets the color schemes for all locations (we wanted it to not only be cohesive throughout the whole game but also reflect the passing of time – morning, afternoon, evening, etc). This is possible thanks to the “macrolocation” system we have – once you go through a set of locations you will not return to them again, so we can give you this sense of passing time. 3. Based on the concept we then proceed to fill in the details – this leads us to a complete lineart. A lineart is (just like the name suggests) a picture that has only the outlines, usually in black. If you haven’t seen one, it resembles a page taken out of a child’s coloring book.4. When we’re happy with the result we create a color palette from the mood board and roughly place them on the lineart. At this stage, we check out if everything works together – if the scene conveys what we wanted to say and if it’s also pleasant for the eye. 5. Then come the flat colors – literally filling in the line art with flat colors. Just one color layer, no shadows, no color blending. You could think of it as colorful paper cutouts placed on the lineart.6. The second-to-last step is creating all the shading, light reflections, and all small details that will make-or-break the picture, bringing it to life and helping us tell a story even before there’s a single word spoken or even before we introduce any of the main characters.7. Then, of course, with games comes the step of creating the animations, different states of interactive elements (etc. closed/open doors), etc. But that’s a different part of this tale. So, did you enjoy this little tour? Would you like to see more from Irony Curtain?.
